Tom Johnston is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the rock band The Doobie Brothers. Johnston was born in Visalia, California, and grew up in the nearby town of San Jose. He began playing guitar at the age of nine, and by the time he was in high school, he was playing in local bands. Johnston's career with The Doobie Brothers began in 1971, when he joined the band as a guitarist and vocalist. He wrote and sang lead vocals on many of the band's biggest hits, including "Listen to the Music," "China Grove," "Long Train Runnin'," and "Black Water." He also wrote and sang lead vocals on the band's Grammy-winning single "What a Fool Believes." Johnston left The Doobie Brothers in 1987, but returned to the band in 1993. He has since continued to tour and record with the band, and has released several solo albums. Johnston is 73 years old. He has an estimated net worth of $20 million.

They released the album "Cycles" in 1989, and "Brotherhood" in 1991.

In 1987, The Doobie Brothers grouped together once again with the lineup featured on their first successful album "Toulouse Street".

Tom Johnston is not only one of the founding members of The Doobie Brothers, but he also composed many of their greatest hits including: "Listen to The Music", "Rockin Down the Highway", "Long Train Running", "China Grove" and "The Doctor".
