Philip Michael Thomas is an American actor and musician best known for his portrayal as detective Ricardo Tubbs on the hit 1980s television series Miami Vice.

His first significant performances were in Coonskin and Sparkle, a 1976 film starring Irene Cara.
Following his triumph in Miami Vice, he appeared in a slew of made-for-TV movies and commercials for phone psychic services.

He was a spokesperson for the cell phone entertainment firm Nextones, and he also voiced the character Lance Vance in the computer games Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006).

His father, Louis Diggs, was a Westinghouse factory foreman. Lulu McMorris was Thomas’s mother. His mother’s first husband’s surname, Thomas, was shared by him and his seven half brothers and sisters.

He participated in his church’s theater group as a child and became interested in ministry at the age of 15 while singing in the Pentecostal Delman Heights Four Square Gospel Church chorus.
