Michael Sheen Parents: Meet Meyrick Sheen and Irene Sheen

On February 5, 1969, Welsh actor Michael Christopher Sheen was born. After receiving his studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, he primarily worked in theater during the 1990s.

In plays like Romeo and Juliet (1992), Don’t Fool with Love (1993), Peer Gynt (1994), The Seagull (1995), The Homecoming (1997), and Henry V (1997), he played a range of theater roles.

He was nominated for an Olivier Award in 1998 and 1999 for his performances in Look Back in Anger at the National Theatre and Amadeus at the Old Vic. In 2003, he was nominated for an Olivier Award for the third time for his portrayal of Caligula at the Donmar Warehouse.

Sheen’s reputation as a screen actor developed in the 2000s, in large part because of his roles in biographical films. He portrayed UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Deal (2003), The Queen (2006), and The Special Relationship (2010), three films directed by Peter Morgan.

For these performances, he was nominated for a BAFTA Award and an Emmy. Moreover, he was nominated for a fourth Olivier Award in 2006 for his portrayal of broadcaster David Frost in the play Frost/Nixon, a part he also played in the 2008 film adaptation.

For his depiction of the unstable comic performer Kenneth Williams in BBC Four’s Fantabulosa! (2006), he was again nominated for a BAFTA.
