Joseph William Kleine (born January 4, 1962) is a former American professional basketball player who was a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for a decade. Kleine, a seven-foot centre, graduated from Slater High School in Slater, Missouri, and initially intended to play basketball at the University of Notre Dame. However, he transferred to the University of Missouri-Rolla. In the spring of his freshman year, Kleine moved to the University of Arkansas, where he played with Alvin Robertson, who like Kleine would go on to have a long and successful professional career after college. Kleine was the sixth overall selection in the 1985 NBA Draft, and he was chosen by the Sacramento Kings. Kleine went on to enjoy a fifteen-year NBA career, during which he played for the Sacramento Kings as well as the Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls, and Portland Trail Blazers, among other teams. As a reserve centre for the Chicago Bulls in 1998, he was awarded an NBA championship ring. His most productive season came with the Kings in 1985, when he averaged 9.8 points per game.

The year before he announced his retirement from the NBA, he had accumulated 4,666 points, 3,991 total rebounds, and had made 849 out of 1,069 tries at the free throw line. Kleine represented the United States in the 1982 FIBA World Championship, where he helped the team to a silver medal. In addition to winning a gold medal alongside his collegiate teammate Robertson, he was a part of the 1984 United States Olympic basketball team, which was coached by Bob Knight. According to sportswriter Jon Goode, “Joe Kleine was never a star, but what distinguished Kleine as a terrific player was that he accepted his position and was ready to perform every night.” Coaching AAU and high school basketball in Little Rock and working as a commentator for Arkansas basketball games led to his hiring as an assistant coach for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2007. He has been with the Razorbacks since 2007.
