ST LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA: A deadly alligator attack left a 85-year-old woman dead in Florida. Authorities have now released the video of the attack after a 911 call was placed by a frightened onlooker. Gloria Serge, 85, died after an alligator lunged at her and dragged her into water in northern St Lucie County in Florida.

On Monday, February 20, the huge reptile attacked the Florida woman while she was walking her dog at the Spanish Lakes Fairways retirement home in Fort Pierce which is 68 miles north of West Palm Beach. Serge tried to save her pet dog as the alligator, which is thought to weigh between 600 and 700 pounds, tried to chomp down on it. Once the witnesses called 911 and reported the incident, the St Lucie County Sheriff's office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) arrived at the scene, as reported by New York Post.

What did the terrified onlooker tell 911 in video?

The disturbing video shows Gloria looking away from the pond as the alligator moves quickly through the water toward her. She didn't realize the danger until the reptile landed on land, after which she tried to save her dog, reports TMZ.

"There’s a woman in the lake," the scared caller, who was watching Gloria Serge battle for her life, yelled, "The alligator's got her!" The caller continued as the alligator dragged its prey into the lake, "He pulled her into the lake." The anonymous caller said "Yes" when the 911 dispatcher inquired as to whether the alligator had dragged the victim underwater.

About 8 minutes into the call, the caller observes a body floating in the water and adds, "I think she's gone, oh my God," after claiming she hasn't seen the woman surface for a while.

MEAWW previously reported, according to Robert Lilly, a nuisance alligator trapper, "It was definitely a fight. [We] snagged him on the bottom. He never surfaced. He stayed down the whole time. We were able to get a second hook in him and a hard line in him so we could get him up."

'Truly Tragic'

Internet was terrified to see the incident on video and took to Twitter to express their horror, "Walks near the water than just stands there until the gator gets to her like wtf? This could have been avoided." A second tweeted, "This is terrible.. wowwww I pray for her family.. thats horrifying fr." A third said, "This is so sad. May she Rest In Peace. It isn’t safe to walk on the water’s edge in Florida especially with a small dog." "This is truly tragic; however, did she have any caretaker(s) to steer her away from doing this? Is this really the gators fault? I think not!" said a fourth. Another posted, "So sad. Hope people see this and stop going near water with alligators. Keep safe."
